Sehaq Queer Party & SÄYE SKYE

Vrankrijk, Spuistraat 216, , Amsterdam, Netherlands

It’s Ramadan again.

And the Hilal (the crescent moon in the Islamic Calendar) is now complete after two years of Sehaq’s cheapness.

Happy Birthday! Or as we say, borrowing from Islamic chants mixed with some debauchery aesthetics: “Toli3a El Rokhosou 3alayna”.

We have: Iftar/dinner + concert by SÄYE SKYE + DJ sets

  • MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED

SÄYE SKYE is a transgender Iranian rap artist and LGBTQ rights activist at the forefront of a new hip-hop movement that has its basis in social consciousness. With astonishing originality, his experimental raps challenge deep-rooted stereotypes of misogyny, discrimination, and queerphobia. Since age 13, he has been crafting songs and poems that resonate deeply with people, using music as a platform for communicating truth. Säye Skye’s work is distinguished by both its mystery and infectious energy. Using the poetic language of Farsi, each song elicits an instant audience connection through its passion and pulse. From its unpredictable flow and hypnotic rhythms to its evocative lyrics, Säye Skye’s work invites listeners to question their current state of being. Säye Skye is the first person in Iran’s history to dare sing about the LGBTQ community, their existence and struggle for freedom. Releasing his first single, Säye Yek Zane Irani (Shadow of an Iranian Woman) put him at great risk for singing and advocating for LGBTQ rights in Iran, and in 2010, Säye Skye was forced to leave his home and seek asylum in Turkey, where he was granted refugee status, and moved thereafter to Toronto in March 2011.

Sehaq does not have any form of funding, and it needs financial support to cover the costs of its events (e.g. benefit parties, workshops/community-building/film-screening events, LBQT-refugees-only events). Sehaq’s refugee participants travel by train from different refugee camps or houses in the Netherlands to attend Sehaq events in Amsterdam. Sehaq needs money to fund their train tickets.

Accessibility: the toilets in the Vrankrijk are not entirely wheelchair friendly, wheelchairs can fit in them but there are no support handles. Smoking won't be allowed indoors.
